Transnational network based in Southern Europe, originating in Madrid, extended via feeder nodes throughout neighboring nations and the digital sphere ////// Red internacional basada en el sur de Europa, originada en Madrid y extensiva a través de nodos distribuidos en países vecinos y la esfera digital
It’s an initiative of comited neighbors from Madrid’s Central District, associated to foster temporary usage of a lot where, until 2009, there was a sports infrastructure: the only public swimming pool in the district. Sports, cultural activities, an urban garden and daily meeting of solidarity networks happen there since 2010. Constructions for a new sports facility are in standby meanwhile.
The proprietary of the lot is the municipality of Madrid. From 2011, there’s a “temporary cession” agreement with the regional federation of neighborhood associations (FRAVM). At first, that cession was delegated to the closest association in the area and renewed yearly. In 2014, the informal assembly formed an association and the cession was transferred to them. The agreement was then signed for 4 years. They participate of a wider network of citizen spaces (Red de Espacios Ciudadanos), working on a bottom-up proposal of least legal framework to support these initiatives.
