1700 square meters open air space. Its core is an organic garden, but there’s also an agora, a space for fixing bikes, a deposit, a free library, a children’s ground, some furniture… It’s located in a former abandoned lot in the central neighborhood of Lavapiés (Madrid). Squatted in 2008, the community established a cession agreement with the City Council between 2010 and 2014. Management of the space falls on a citizen assembly and volunteer neighbors that organize opening, closing, cleaning and promotion of activities. During 2015, they claim to renew a cession compromise from the municipality.
Mail:
The proprietary of the lot is the municipality of Madrid. After two years of occupation (2008 – 2010), an agreement was sign with a cultural association constituted on purpose. The space is absolutely self managed with no intervention or contribution from the City Council. The original contract ended in 2014. During 2015, the assembly claims to renew the agreement. They participate of a wider network of citizen spaces (Red de Espacios Ciudadanos), working on a bottom-up proposal of least legal framework to support these initiatives.
